This band covers most general construction work: two to four breakers, a small blasting pot, tie rod work or general site air. It is also the size that gets hired out most often, so durability and simple servicing matter more than anything else.
Machines here are single-axle towable, road legal, and built with a galvanised chassis because they spend their lives outdoors.

Airend, engine and cooling are matched so the machine can run at full output all day in high ambient rather than derating by the afternoon. That is the specification that separates machines in this class.
Everything that gets serviced is behind one door, and the machine can be lifted, towed or skidded without dismantling anything.

What is a medium portable compressor?
Broadly the 5 to 12 m³/min class. The workhorse size that runs several breakers, a small drill rig or a sandblasting pot.
How many tools will it run?
Around three to five breakers, or one medium rock drill. Always size on simultaneous use, not on the number of tools in the store.
What pressure do they deliver?
Usually 7 to 12 bar. Higher-pressure versions exist for drilling, and the flow rating falls as the pressure rating rises.
Is it road towable?
Most of this class is, with braked axles. Check the plated weight against your towing vehicle before assuming it.
What fuel consumption should I expect?
It varies with load, but plan for a full working day per tank at typical duty. We give the actual figures per model rather than a rule of thumb.
Can I add an aftercooler or filtration?
Yes, for blasting, painting and tank work where water in the air ruins the job. It is a common and worthwhile option in this class.
How does it handle summer heat here?
Correctly specified units are rated for high ambient. The failure mode is always a dirty cooler, so cleaning schedule matters more than the rating.
What is the resale value like?
Good, if the service record is complete. This size sells quickly across Pakistan and the Gulf second-hand.
Should I hire or buy at this size?
This is the class most contractors own, because it is used on nearly every job. Larger sizes are more often hired for specific tasks.
Which options are worth having?
Cold-start aids where relevant, spark arrestor, a decent tool box and lifting eyes. Small options that save real time on site.
