Air compressor repair

A machine that has stopped, and the fastest honest route to getting it running.

Air compressor repair

What happens when you call

A compressor that has stopped is not a maintenance question, it is a production question. What matters in the first hour is not what caused it but how quickly someone competent can be in front of the machine with the right part in the van.

We repair screw, piston and portable machines, our own and other manufacturers'. Diagnosis comes first and in writing: what has failed, what it will cost to put right, and whether repairing it is still the sensible thing to do on a machine of that age.

What you get

We repair other makes

Most of the machines our engineers open were not sold by us. Bring us the serial number and we will tell you honestly whether we can support it.

Quotation before work

The machine is stripped and measured, then you get a firm price. Nothing is spent until you approve it.

Exchange rather than wait

Where the airend has gone, a rebuilt unit from stock avoids the weeks a rebuild would take.

A bridging machine if you need one

If the repair will take longer than your production can stand, a rental unit covers the gap.

What happens when you call

We ask what the machine is doing and what it was doing before, because the second question is usually where the answer is. Then we tell you when an engineer will be there rather than saying as soon as possible.

The engineer arrives with the common parts for your model on the van. A first visit that ends with an order for a part is a wasted visit and we treat it as one.

You get a written report with what failed, why it failed and what will stop it happening again. That last part is the one most reports leave out.

  • Real arrival time given, not an estimate
  • Common parts for your model carried on the van
  • Written report on what failed and why
  • Cause addressed, not just the symptom
  • Same engineers who service the machines
  • Cover in every country we trade in
  • Out of hours support on a plan
  • Hire machine offered while yours is down

What it costs

We quote the repair before we do it, except where you have asked us to proceed to a limit. Nobody enjoys an invoice that arrives bigger than the conversation.

Where a repair is close to the value of an exchange unit we will say so and show both numbers. Selling a repair that does not make sense costs us the customer.

Customers on a maintenance plan pay a lower labour rate and get priority, which is most of the reason plans exist.

  • Repair quoted before the work starts
  • Limit agreed in advance where you prefer
  • Exchange compared honestly against repair
  • Lower labour rate on a maintenance plan
  • Priority response for plan customers
  • No charge for the second visit on the same fault
  • Parts priced from a published list
  • Warranty on the repair

Stopping it happening again

Almost every failure we attend was preventable and most of them were predictable. Bearings do not fail without warning and separators do not block overnight.

The report tells you what the machine was showing before it stopped, and whether anybody could have seen it. That is not a sales line, it is what the data shows.

If the same fault comes back we return at our cost. A repair that does not hold was not a repair.

  • Cause identified, not just the failure
  • Warning signs explained from the data
  • Return at our cost if the fault repeats
  • Service schedule adjusted after a failure
  • Monitoring offered where it would have caught it
  • Spares advice based on what actually failed
  • Records kept against the serial number
  • Trend reviewed at the next service

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair machines you did not supply?

Yes, and most of what our engineers open was sold by somebody else. Send us the serial number rather than the model, because manufacturers change specifications mid-series without renaming the machine.

How do I get a price before committing?

The machine is stripped and measured first, then you get a firm written quotation. Nothing is spent on parts or labour until you approve that figure.

Can it be repaired on site or does it have to come in?

That depends on what has failed. Filters, valves, coolers, sensors and belts are site work. Airend and motor failures normally mean the workshop, or an exchange unit.

How long will my machine be down?

The honest answer depends on the part. Stocked consumables are same or next day. An airend exchange avoids the weeks a rebuild takes. We tell you the expected time with the quotation, not after.

What if the repair costs more than the machine is worth?

We will say so. On an old machine with a failed airend it is often cheaper to replace than to rebuild, and we would rather lose the repair than sell you one you regret.

Can I keep running while you repair it?

If the downtime matters more than the rental cost, yes. A bridging machine covers the gap and comes off hire the day yours restarts.

What causes most of the failures you attend?

Missed servicing, the wrong oil, water in the oil, and dirt through a damaged intake filter. All four are preventable, and all four are what we normally find.

Is the repair guaranteed?

Parts and labour we supply are warranted. What we cannot warrant is the rest of a machine we did not rebuild, and we set that out in the quotation rather than in the small print.

My compressor runs but the pressure has dropped. Is that a repair?

Usually it is wear rather than failure: airend clearances opening, a blocked separator, or a leak downstream. It is worth measuring before assuming the compressor is at fault, because leaks account for a surprising share of these calls.

Do you work outside normal hours?

Breakdown attendance is arranged around your production rather than our office hours. Agreeing response expectations in advance, as part of a service plan, is what makes that reliable.
